Press for Better Coffee - in 2 minutes
Yes, AeroPress Steel is dishwasher-safe. If you don’t have a dishwasher, you can also clean it by hand with lukewarm water, gentle soap, and a gentle cloth every week.
Does the stainless steel chamber get hot?No, because the chamber is vacuum-insulated double-wall stainless steel, while it may get a little bit warm, it does not get hot.
Does AeroPress Steel lose significant amounts of heat due to its all-Stainless-Steel design? No. In fact, AeroPress Steel retains heat better than other AeroPress coffee makers. In brewing, temperature is typically lost in two ways. First, when hot water is added and first contacts the chamber wall, then second, while the coffee is brewing during the immersion part of the process, heat is lost to the surrounding air. Due to AeroPress Steel’s unique vacuum-insulated double-wall design, less heat is absorbed by the brewing chamber when the hot water is first added, resulting in a higher initial brew temperature. The double-wall design also provides insulation, which keeps the coffee hot longer during the brew process. Note: Preheating any chamber will raise the starting brew temperature, but it does not significantly change the rate of heat loss.
Is the Steel meant for travel?Yes, because it's made from durable stainless steel, AeroPress Steel is a great option for travel, your home kitchen, or anywhere you need great coffee. Like any stainless steel product, however, if mistreated, it can be subject to denting.
My Steel filter cap gets hot after brewing. What do I do?You can let it sit for just a few moments, run the filter cap under cool water before removing it from the chamber or you can use a cloth to remove it.
What materials go into making AeroPress Steel? The chamber, plunger, filter cap, scoop and stirrer are made of professional-grade 304 stainless steel. The plunger seal is made of LFGB-grade silicone.
What is 304 stainless steel? Is it the same as 18/8 stainless steel?304 stainless steel is a professional-grade, food-safe stainless steel alloy known for its strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. It contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel — which is why you may also see it referred to as “18/8” stainless steel. In fact, 18/8 and 304 are often used interchangeably; 18/8 simply describes the minimum chromium and nickel content within the 304 specification range. Because of its excellent resistance to rust and staining, along with its ability to handle repeated heating and cooling, 304 stainless steel is widely used in food and beverage equipment, commercial kitchens, medical tools, and other demanding everyday applications. It’s strong, stable, and built to last — making it an ideal material for brewing exceptional coffee.
Why is AeroPress Steel manufactured with professional-grade 304 stainless steel? We chose 304 stainless steel because it delivers the ideal balance of durability, corrosion resistance, food safety, and manufacturability for a precision coffee press. 304 is exceptionally resistant to rust and staining, making it perfect for repeated exposure to hot water and daily use. It’s also strong and impact-resistant, helping the AeroPress Steel stand up to years of brewing at home or on the go. Just as important, 304 stainless steel is easier to form and weld than many alternative alloys. That matters in a product like AeroPress Steel, where tight tolerances and precise assembly are essential to ensuring a consistent seal and dependable performance. You may see other brands describe their stainless steel as “18/8” or even “aerospace grade.” In practice, 18/8 is simply another way of describing 304 stainless steel. While 304 can be used in certain non-structural aerospace components, it is not typically selected for high-stress aircraft structures because aerospace engineering prioritizes extremely high strength-to-weight ratios and specialized alloys. For a coffee press, however, 304 stainless steel is exactly the right material — durable, corrosion-resistant, food-safe, and built for everyday performance.
Why does AeroPress Steel use vacuum-insulated double-wall construction instead of standard double-wall construction?A vacuum-insulated double-wall chamber reduces heat transfer far more effectively than a standard double wall because the air between the walls is removed, minimizing conductive and convective heat loss. This helps maintain a higher, more stable brewing temperature throughout immersion, supporting better brew control.
What is the capacity of AeroPress Steel? The Steel chamber holds up to 12 oz, 20% more capacity than AeroPress Original, Clear, Premium and Go Plus.
What size filters work with AeroPress Steel?AeroPress Steel is compatible with standard-size AeroPress filters.
Can I use the standard-size AeroPress Flow Control Cap with AeroPress Steel?Yes, AeroPress Steel is compatible with the standard-size AeroPress Flow Control Cap.
Why are there numbers (1-5) on the chamber of AeroPress Steel if you can’t see the coffee inside? The number markings are a recognizable part of the AeroPress design and, by including them on Steel, we're protecting our trademark. To help with fill guidance, the inside of the chamber includes a laser-etched mark at the 5 level that can be seen from above. Most people can simply fill the amount of water they want. If you want more consistency, you can measure water with a measuring cup. For the most precise brewing, you can also measure water with a scale. Do not press while the AeroPress is on a scale.
Is AeroPress Steel microwave-safe?No, please do not place your AeroPress Steel in the microwave.
I noticed that my AeroPress Steel seal stays compressed inside the chamber when I store it with the plunger inside. Is that a problem? No — this is completely normal and won’t damage your seal. Early AeroPress models used natural rubber seals that could wear out faster if stored compressed inside the chamber, but the current AeroPress Steel uses a durable silicone seal that doesn’t fatigue under compression. You can safely store your plunger inside the chamber without affecting the seal’s lifespan.
Is AeroPress Steel BPA-free?Yes.
Where is AeroPress Steel manufactured?AeroPress Steel is manufactured in China. AeroPress was founded by inventor Alan Adler, who created the very first prototype in his garage in Palo Alto, California. While a significant portion of our product line continues to be manufactured in the United States, some products are manufactured overseas driven by consideration of materials, assembly, cost and order quantity thresholds. All AeroPress products continue to be conceived and designed in the USA.
What kind of coffee does it make?Like all AeroPress coffee makers, AeroPress Steel can make American style coffee, cold brew style coffee, or espresso style coffee (which can also be used in drinks like lattes and cappuccinos).
Does it make cold brew?Yes, AeroPress Steel makes cold brew.
What accessories does it come with?AeroPress Steel comes with a stainless steel scoop, a stainless steel stirrer, and paper filters.
Is AeroPress Steel easy to use?Yes. Just grind your coffee, heat some water, stir and press!
I heard you can make all kinds of coffee with AeroPress. What’s the easiest way to start? You can make hundreds of recipes with an AeroPress Steel, but here’s an easy place to start! Put in 2 level scoops of medium-fine grind coffee, fill the chamber to the (5) with boiling water (or 185 degrees if you have a kettle), stir for 3 seconds, then press and enjoy. For more, check out our How to Use page!
The paper filter sticks to the filter cap. How do I remove it?Gently brush the end of the stirrer across the paper filter in the cap. This makes the paper curl up for easy removal.
